Case Study of Shimane Prefecture

Online Training System

For those who are single parents, widows, or with disabilities, who are aiming for financial independence with IT related telecommunication, we lent our thin client solution.

Providing unified environment

In Shimane prefecture, online courses covering the necessary knowledge for telecommunication and technical training was provided for 42 people as a telecommunication support business for single parents from April 2011. Thin clients have been selected for online training terminals and have been lent to all students.

All the client terminals are managed at the central server side so that each student can use the unified environment at all times. They study on virtual desktops in a remote desktop service with Nexterm TN50.

SSL-VPN is used for server connection and finger print authentication is used for login so that family members and other unauthorized people won't be able to use the terminal. Customizations have been made so that you can get to the authentication screen only by clicking the icon on the desktop of the terminal after booting, and automatically log in to the virtual desktop after authentication.

Protecting private information and assuring convenience

It is possible to use individual PCs to take online courses. In this case, however, several kinds of verification will be needed such as whether virus scan software is installed, if the latest service pack is used, and if VPN software needs to be installed, etc., thus barriers for starting the lessons increase. Use of thin clients prevents the leaking of business information (confidential information) and lets students take lessons easily and securely.
